Westlake…1st Day Postponed
Early this morning, there was a bomb threat followed by a threat of violent intrusion claiming to come in to Westlake High School with weapons and explosives. Specific details about the threat made it credible for law enforcement to lock down the building and perimeter. A thorough search was conducted by law enforcement and the building was eventually deemed safe. Due to the time necessary to guarantee the safety of the students and faculty, the first day of school was canceled. Once the school was secured, the faculty and staff were directed in to the building and were debriefed by law enforcement. Teachers have been directed to use the rest of the day as a collaboration day in preparation for students. The building will be open from 1:00pm to 3:30pm for parents and students who chose to visit their teachers. However, teachers will only be available until 2:45pm. All extra- curricular activites will resume as scheduled. Tomorrow, August 20th will be the first day of school, which will be a B Day. We would like to thank all the patrons and students in the Westlake community for their understanding and patience. We look forward to a great year!
